What we had:
- A cup with two scoops: white chrysanthemum and hazelnut
Birds of Paradise is known for its plant-inspired flavours, and the white chrysanthemum is exactly the kind of delicate, unusual scoop you go there for. It captures that floral, faintly honeyed chrysanthemum-tea flavour in gelato form, gentle, fragrant and barely sweet, almost soothing, like a cooling cup of chrysanthemum tea frozen into cream. Quietly clever.
The hazelnut was the cosy, more familiar one to balance it, deep and toasty with that warm roasted-nut flavour and a slightly bitter edge against the sweet base. A proper grown-up scoop.
The two together made a great contrast: one light and floral, one rich and nutty, and the gelato itself was dense and smooth in that careful, artisan way. The flavours are restrained and elegant rather than sugary, which I really appreciate.
It is a little pricier than a regular scoop, but for gelato this thoughtful and well-made, it is worth it. A refined, refreshing way to end the day.
Overall: 4.6 / 5. ๐๐๐ผ A delicate floral white chrysanthemum and a toasty hazelnut, elegant and smooth. Would re-visit.
