A lovely New Yearβs Eve sushi dinner with BB to close out the year: $42.61 for a plate-by-plate spread. π£π
What we had:
- Ikura gunkan: salmon roe in a seaweed wrap
- Salmon, snapper and shiro nigiri
- Aburi salmon: lightly torched, melt-in-the-mouth
- Akami maguro nigiri: lean tuna
- Chawanmushi: silky steamed egg custard
- Clam miso soup
- A slice of mille crepe cake
We worked through the sushi plate by plate, sharing everything. The ikura gunkan was a treat to start, those glossy salmon-roe pearls bursting with briny pops against the rice and seaweed. The nigiri were the heart of it: clean, fresh slices of salmon, snapper and lean tuna draped over warm rice, and the aburi salmon was the standout, lightly torched so the surface fat turns soft and smoky and it almost melts.
Between the cold pieces, the warm bits were just as good: a silky chawanmushi with that savoury dashi wobble, and a comforting clam miso soup to round things out.
Then the sweet surprise: a slice of mille crepe cake, all those thin pancake layers stacked with cream, soft and delicate, a lovely way to end a year-end dinner. Fresh fish, a couple of warm comforts and a pretty slice to finish, a happy little NYE meal between us.
Overall: 4.7 / 5. πππΌ Fresh nigiri, gorgeous aburi salmon and a delicate mille crepe to close the year. Would re-visit.
