Wanton mee ($3 each)!

A bargain weekend brunch: wanton mee at $3 each. ๐Ÿ˜‹

What we had ($6 total):

You do not see $3 wanton mee much any more, so this was a happy find. The thin egg noodles (mee kia) came tossed in a light chilli-and-soy dressing, just enough to colour and season them, springy and well cooked with a stalk of greens for freshness.

The char siew on top was the draw, slices with caramelised, slightly charred edges, sweet and savoury against the noodles. Each bowl came with its own little bowl of wonton soup alongside, smooth pork-filled dumplings bobbing in a clean, spring-onion-flecked broth.

Mix the chilli through, slurp the noodles, sip the soup between mouthfuls: a simple, comforting rhythm. It is not the fanciest plate, but for three dollars it is honest, tasty and exactly enough. The kind of cheap, reliable bowl that makes a weekend morning easy.

Overall: 4.5 / 5. ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ Springy chilli-sauced noodles with sweet char siew and wontons in clean soup, all for $3. Would re-order.
