Two contrasting drinks from PlayMade with BB: a watermelon latte with watermelon pearls ($5.70) and a brown rice sencha ($3.60). π
What we had ($9.30 total):
- Watermelon latte with handmade watermelon pearls: a pretty pink, layered milk-and-watermelon drink
- Brown rice sencha: a clear, toasty Japanese green tea
PlayMade is known for its handmade pearls, and the watermelon latte was the playful one. It came layered pink and white, a sweet, fresh watermelon-and-milk drink, with the special bit at the bottom: little watermelon pearls that burst with juice when you bite them, so each sip ends with a pop of watermelon flavour. Fun and refreshing, very much a treat drink.
The brown rice sencha was the grown-up, calming choice. It is essentially genmaicha, Japanese green tea blended with toasted brown rice, so it pours out clear and amber with a lovely nutty, toasty aroma over the grassy green tea. Light, gently savoury and barely sweet, it was the perfect, palate-cleansing counterpoint to the sugary latte.
Ordering one of each was the right call: one fun and fruity, one soothing and toasty. A nice little tea break covering both moods.
Overall: 4.6 / 5. πππΌ A playful watermelon latte with bursting pearls and a calming toasty sencha. Would re-order.
