GrabFood pork porridge ($15)!

A gentle lunch when we were both a bit under the weather: pork porridge delivered via GrabFood, $15 for a sharing bowl. ๐Ÿ˜‹

What we had:

Cantonese pork porridge is the ultimate sick-day comfort food, and even delivered, this held up. The congee had the right texture, velvety and smooth, simmered long enough that the rice grains had all but dissolved into the broth, thick enough to hold a spoon but not gluey.

The toppings did the work: tender slices of pork poached soft in the porridge, little bits of salty preserved vegetable (chai poh) for an umami kick, and crispy fried shallots with scallion on top. The you tiao (fried dough fritter) came in a separate bag to keep it crisp, the way it should, so you can break it into the hot porridge and eat it before it goes soggy, that lovely crisp-to-soft transition.

A spoon of white pepper stirred in adds a gentle warmth that lifts the whole bowl. When you are feeling slightly off, a warm bowl of smooth porridge is exactly what the body asks for.

Overall: 4.4 / 5. ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ Smooth, velvety congee with tender pork and a crisp you tiao, comforting and restorative. Would re-order on off days.
