What we had ($7.40):
- Piemonte roasted hazelnut gelato
- Chocolate nibs gelato
- A housemade jumbo lavender waffle cone
The hazelnut was the one I came for, and it was the real deal, made with Piemonte hazelnuts from northern Italy, which have a deeper, more aromatic roasted-nut flavour than the usual varieties. The scoop was that pale tan colour with the unmistakable toasted-hazelnut perfume, dense and a little bitter in the best way, with bits of ground hazelnut through the cream. Like Nutella but grown-up.
The chocolate nibs was the darker partner, made with cacao nibs so it had a deeper, slightly bitter, earthy chocolate flavour, with little crispy nib pieces giving a cocoa crunch in each spoonful. Hazelnut and chocolate is the classic Italian pairing for a reason, each one lifting the other.
The lavender waffle cone was a lovely housemade touch, crisp with a faint floral perfume. The kind of double scoop you eat slowly and savour, no rush.
Overall: 4.5 / 5. ๐๐๐ผ Deep, nutty Piemonte hazelnut and bitter-crunchy chocolate nibs in a fragrant lavender cone. A regular order.
