Simple brunch!

Wednesday phase-2 simple brunch — home plate of rice, eggs, vegetables. Mid-week kitchen routine continuing.

Simple brunch!

Wednesday mid-week brunch at home — keeping it simple after a few days of cafe stops and hawker spreads. Sometimes the simple plate is exactly what the week needs.

Today’s plate:

The “simple” framing on a Wednesday brunch is the small acknowledgment that we’ve been eating elaborately for a few days in a row. Monday hawker XLB spread, Tuesday cafe latte stop and wholegrain laksa — by Wednesday we’d accumulated enough variety that a back-to-basics home plate felt right.

Hot rice base was the standard fluffy jasmine.

Fried egg was the M-style sunny-side. Crispy white edges, runny golden yolk centred on the plate.

Stir-fried vegetables today were a quick mix of cabbage and carrot shreds with smashed garlic, splash of soy. Tender-crisp, lightly seasoned.

Protein side was a small portion of pan-fried sausage rounds — sliced Bratwurst, hit the pan in its rendered fat.

Chilli sauce on the side as always.

We sat at the kitchen counter, drank coffee from the V60, ate slow. The Wednesday mid-week brunch is the small comfort meal that anchors the middle of the work week.

The home weekday brunch routine had earned its slot through circuit breaker and phase 2. By mid-August the format had become genuinely automatic — same components, same kitchen counter, same 15-minute timeframe. The repetition wasn’t boring; it was the steadying thing.

Lockdown taught us which routines were worth keeping. Home weekday brunches sit firmly on that list.

Overall: 4.2 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Reliable simple brunch — keeping the routine.
