Sunday's brunch ($15)!

Sunday phase-2 brunch delivery — $15 spread. Post-circuit-breaker weekend treat without the dine-in queues.

Sunday's brunch ($15)!

Sunday brunch — switched to delivery this weekend after a few straight weeks of home-cooking. Pulled a $15 brunch spread via the delivery app. Phase 2 reopening meant dine-in was back as an option but we were still happy to default to delivery for weekend brunches.

We ordered:

The spread followed the standard Singapore brunch-restaurant format. A protein-and-egg main, a carb base, side vegetables or salad, and a drink. The kind of plate that’s the third-wave-cafe equivalent of a hawker breakfast.

The protein-egg main was the central component — a glazed chicken, salmon or pork piece paired with eggs done one of three ways (scrambled, fried sunny-side, or poached). The kind of combination that you’d order at any of the Holland Village or Tiong Bahru cafe spots pre-pandemic.

Carb base was a small portion of brioche toast or hash brown — the brunch-restaurant default starches. Slightly buttery, toasted golden, easy to eat alongside the protein.

Side vegetables or salad came in a small compartment — usually some mixed greens with a balsamic dressing or a small portion of sautéed mushroom. The brunch-veg category.

Drink was a sealed cup with a coffee or fresh juice option.

At $15 for a delivered brunch this is mid-tier pricing — cheaper than the $20-25 you’d pay at the dine-in equivalent but the delivery surge and packaging fees eat into the value.

The food was reasonable but didn’t quite hit the same as a fresh-plated cafe brunch. Eggs were noticeably less fluffy than when made on the spot, the carb base had cooled to room temperature by delivery, and the protein was the strongest component.

Lockdown taught us that some food formats just don’t translate to delivery as cleanly as others.

Overall: 3.9 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Decent delivery brunch — would consider home-cooking instead next weekend.
