Tuesday's brunch!
Tuesday phase-2 brunch — home plate of rice, eggs and vegetables. Steady weekday lockdown-era kitchen routine.
Tuesday brunch at home — phase 2 weekday rotation. The home kitchen had become the default weekday brunch venue and we weren’t looking to change it.
Today’s plate:
- Hot rice base
- Fried egg (sunny-side)
- Stir-fried vegetables
- Pan-seared protein
- Chilli sauce on the side
The Tuesday brunch is the small-energy mid-rotation meal of the week. Monday is the start-of-week reset; Wednesday is the mid-week peak; Tuesday is the quiet steady day between them. The cooking energy matches — focused, not ambitious.
Hot rice base was the standard fluffy jasmine. Properly steamed.
Fried egg was the M-style sunny-side. Crispy white edges, runny golden yolk centred on the plate.
Stir-fried vegetables today were a quick mix of cabbage shreds and carrot strips with smashed garlic and a splash of soy.
Pan-seared protein was a small portion of pan-fried sausage rounds today — sliced Bratwurst link, hit the pan in its own rendered fat, browned both sides.
Chilli sauce on the side as always.
We sat at the kitchen table, drank coffee from the V60 dripper, and ate slow. The mid-morning quiet of working-from-home was one of the small benefits of the lockdown-era schedule that we kept up into phase 2.
The home brunch had become the most consistent meal of the week. Lockdown habits worth keeping after restrictions eased — this routine was at the top of the list.
Phase 2 reopening had restored the option of going out for breakfast, but the home brunch kept winning on cost, time, and zero-queue convenience. We were happy to keep the routine.
Overall: 4.2 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Reliable Tuesday brunch — keeping the routine.
