Cherry cranberry + Orange pomelo + Blueberry lava + Hazelnut lava ($8)!
Four mini lava cakes from the lava bakery — cherry cranberry, orange pomelo, blueberry lava, hazelnut lava. $8 for all four.
Lava bakery round 2 — four mini lava cakes in two boxes, $8 total. Same brand as the earlier hazelnut + Portuguese tart run. 😋
What was in the boxes ($8 for 4):
- Cherry Cranberry (top-left) — golden round cake with a deep red cherry-cranberry filling pooled on top, the centre slightly cratered where the filling sits exposed.
- Blueberry Lava (top-right) — twin to the cherry, dark blueberry filling pooled in the centre crater, the cake itself golden-baked.
- Orange Pomelo (bottom-left) — bright orange citrus filling in a wide centre dip, the most visually striking of the four with the vibrant orange spread.
- Hazelnut Lava (bottom-right) — darker chocolate-hazelnut cake with chopped roasted hazelnut bits scattered on top, no visible lava crater (filling sealed inside).
The lava series is the bakery’s signature — small round cakes baked with a molten/jam filling left semi-exposed at the top. Cherry cranberry + blueberry are the fruit lava pair (tart-sweet jam-style), orange pomelo is the citrus standout (brighter + more acidic), hazelnut is the chocolate lava classic.
Orange pomelo was the surprise highlight — the citrus tang cut through what would otherwise be four jam-style cakes in a row. The slight bitterness from pomelo zest gives it more dimension than a plain orange filling.
Hazelnut lava remains the chocolate reference. Chopped hazelnuts on top add textural crunch + roasted nut aroma on top of the molten centre.
$2 per cake = decent value for an artisan bakery lava cake. Most cafe versions go $4-5+ each.
Total: $8 for the box of 4.
Overall: 4.5 / 5. Orange pomelo was the unexpected best, hazelnut lava the comfort pick, cherry + blueberry the solid jam pair. Will keep coming back for the rotating flavours. 😍👍🏼
