Maw's Penang Cuisine — Chee Cheong Fun + Curry CCF ($4 + $4.50)!
Maw's Penang Cuisine takeaway — classic Penang-style chee cheong fun with sweet sauce and the curry version with fried tau pok, fishball, long beans. $4 + $4.50.
WFH lunch — ordered from Maw’s Penang Cuisine for the chee cheong fun double-take: classic dry style + curry style. $8.50 total. 😋
What was in the two takeaway tubs ($4 + $4.50):
- Classic chee cheong fun ($4) (left) — soft white chee cheong fun rolls topped with bean sprouts, fried beancurd skin strips, fried tau pok cubes, drizzled with dark sweet sauce and finished with sesame seeds. Penang-style.
- Curry chee cheong fun ($4.50) (right) — same chee cheong fun base but drowned in a bright orange-red curry gravy, loaded with fried tau pok, fishball, fried fishcake, long beans and bits of fried beancurd skin.
Maw’s does proper Penang-style CCF — the chee cheong fun rolls are slightly thicker than the Cantonese dim sum version, holding up better against the dark sweet sauce / curry coatings. The dry version is the heritage classic; the curry version is the upgrade if you want something more substantial.
The curry has real depth — proper rempah simmer, not just curry powder dumped on. Long beans were the surprise hero — they stayed crunchy through the curry.
Total: $8.50 for both.
Overall: 4.3 / 5. Classic CCF was nostalgic comfort, curry CCF was the louder showstopper. Penang heritage flavours brought to SG WFH lunch via delivery. Will reorder. 😍👍🏼
