Roasted Pistachio gelato ($4.60)!

Roasted pistachio gelato scoop $4.60 — properly nutty, slightly bitter, the kind of pistachio that doesn't hide behind sugar.

Roasted Pistachio gelato ($4.60)!

Friday afternoon — quick dessert detour on the way home. Roasted pistachio is the gelato I judge every shop by, because the lazy shops use a paste and the good shops actually toast and grind their own nuts.

We ordered:

This scoop was the real deal. Pale brown-green colour (not the radioactive lime green of artificial flavourings), with visible flecks of ground pistachio through the body of the gelato. Aroma off the cup was the warm, toasted-nut perfume of pistachios that have been roasted that morning rather than scooped from a 5kg tub.

Texture was dense and slow-melting, the way proper gelato is — lower fat than ice cream, lower air content too, which means each spoonful packs more flavour. Sweetness was restrained, letting the pistachio bitterness come through underneath the cream. That slight bitter edge is what separates a $4.60 roasted-pistachio scoop from a generic pistachio paste version at the same price.

At $4.60 a scoop this is fair artisan-tier pricing in Singapore — same range as most independents.

Some gelato shops only really get a couple of flavours right, and you can always tell those shops because the pistachio is sad. This one is doing the work.

Overall: 4.8 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Genuinely excellent pistachio — locked in as the regular scoop order.
