Soy garlic chicken rice ($5.90) & KOI honey oolong milk tea ($4)!
Bukit Batok soy garlic chicken rice $5.90 + KOI honey oolong milk tea $4. The chicken rice + bubble tea combo that owns every weekday lunch.
Monday afternoon — back at Bukit Batok and grabbed lunch + drinks in one swoop. The soy garlic chicken rice at the food court paired with a quick KOI honey oolong milk tea is one of those default-mode meals when nothing more elaborate makes sense.
We ordered:
- Soy garlic chicken rice — $5.90
- KOI honey oolong milk tea — $4
The chicken rice came as the soy-style (酱油鸡) version — glossy dark-soy lacquered chicken, tender, with the skin tinted that deep amber colour that signals proper braising in a master stock. Sliced thin off the bone, with the slices fanned over fragrant chicken rice that had the right oily-ginger-garlic punch.
A small ramekin of garlic chilli on the side and a darker thicker soy gravy for those who wanted extra sweetness. Cucumber slices, a sprig of coriander, side of clear chicken soup.
The KOI honey oolong milk tea was the right pairing. Roasted oolong notes coming through the milk and honey, classic Taiwanese tea base, sweetness level dialed to 50% (the only setting that respects the tea). Pearls were chewy and fresh, KOI being the chain that built its reputation on QC discipline.
$9.90 total for chicken rice and a bubble tea is a fair weekday lunch budget.
Overall: 4.3 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Reliable Bukit Batok lunch — combo locked in.
