Wafu Chicken ($28++)!

City Hall Japanese — wafu chicken set $28++. Pan-seared chicken with Japanese ponzu glaze, served with rice and miso soup.

Wafu Chicken ($28++)!

Saturday lunch with BB at a City Hall Japanese restaurant — the same area as the kaisen don visit last week, different spot, different mood. Going for a hot main this time.

We ordered:

Wafu means “Japanese-style” — a sauce category built on shoyu, mirin, and citrus ponzu, finished with grated daikon and a chiffonade of shiso. The chicken arrived as seared chicken thigh slices on a hot stone plate, skin gone crisp under the broiler, with the wafu sauce pooled around the base picking up the rendered fat.

Chicken was juicy with a clean roast flavour — no overpowering marinade, just enough salt and citrus to let the meat speak. Skin had the proper rendered crackle that you only get from a high-heat finish. Grated daikon on top added a fresh sharp note, while the shiso ribbons gave it that mint-basil-anise lift.

Set came with miso soup, short-grain rice, pickled veg, and a small chawanmushi. Standard Japanese set meal architecture — every component earning its slot.

$28++ is mid-tier Japanese restaurant pricing in City Hall — not budget but not splurge. Service was attentive, plating was minimal in the right way.

City Hall is one of the more consistent areas in town for Japanese chains and indies — easy MRT access, plenty of options across the price spectrum.

Overall: 4.3 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Clean wafu chicken set — would happily revisit.
