Yakitori takeaway lunch bento ($9.50)!
Japanese yakitori bento upgrade — chicken karaage skewer, ebi furai prawn cutlet, tamagoyaki, tsukune meatballs and grilled chicken thigh on nori-furikake rice. $9.50.
WFH takeaway lunch — yakitori bento upgrade at $9.50. Bigger spread than the usual $7.50 box. 😋
What was in the bento ($9.50):
- A bed of white rice at the base, dusted with chopped nori (seaweed) and furikake seasoning.
- A tsukune (chicken meatball) skewer with three glazed meatballs in sweet tare sauce.
- A yakitori chicken thigh skewer with proper char marks under teriyaki glaze.
- A tamagoyaki (rolled Japanese omelette) skewer — golden rectangular block with the signature rolled-layer cross-section.
- An ebi furai (panko prawn cutlet) skewer — single large prawn coated in panko, tail-on.
- A chicken karaage skewer — bite-sized fried chicken pieces on a stick.
- Pickled red plums (umeboshi) at the corner for the sour palate reset.
The $9.50 upgrade from the standard $7.50 yakitori bento gets you the tamagoyaki addition — the rolled Japanese omelette is the distinctive item that elevates the spread from “fried things on rice” to “proper Japanese sukiyaki-style lunch”.
Tamagoyaki done right has multiple thin egg layers rolled together (visible in the cross-section), with a slightly sweet-savoury seasoning. Adding it to a yakitori box gives you a clean comfort bite between the heavier fried + grilled items.
Total: $9.50. Premium-yakitori-lunch pricing.
Overall: 4.5 / 5. Tamagoyaki was the worthy upgrade item, variety was generous (5 skewers + rice + pickled plum), every item was properly cooked. Will keep ordering the upgraded version. 😍👍🏼
