Seah Im Food Centre

A revisit to Seah Im Food Centre by HarbourFront: the braised duck with yam rice ($3) and one of the best lor mee ($3) around, garlicky with vinegar and chilli to self-add.

Seah Im Food Centre

A revisit to Seah Im Food Centre, the cosy hawker centre tucked beside HarbourFront, just across from VivoCity and Sentosa. πŸ˜‹

Unfortunately we discovered that Eat 3 Bowls had closed and moved to the Lavender area, and the sugar cane drinks stall at the end was closed too.

We tried the braised duck with yam rice combination ($3), with spicy chilli at the side. Braised duck (lor ack) is duck slow-simmered in a dark herbal soy braise until tender and savoury, and pairing it with yam rice (rice cooked with chunks of soft taro) is the classic Teochew combo, the starchy, fragrant yam soaking up the braising gravy. The standard was still the same as before, and the queue was pretty much the usual norm for a weekday lunch.

Ordered the lor mee ($3) too. Yummy and decent, one of the best lor mee around. The garlic was added by the stall owner, with vinegar and chilli to self-add. Lor mee is thick yellow noodles in a dark, starchy braised gravy, and getting the garlic-vinegar-chilli balance right is what lifts it, the acidity cutting through the rich gravy.

A handy hawker centre to know if you’re around HarbourFront or heading to Sentosa. Will revisit again to try out the other stalls.

Overall: 4.2 / 5. πŸ˜‹πŸ‘πŸΌ The $3 braised duck yam rice and the garlicky lor mee were both honest, tasty hawker plates. Would re-visit.
