Ah Loy Thai!
Revisit to Ah Loy Thai (Tan Quee Lan Street): the fried glass noodles ($8.90), clear tom yum seafood soup ($9.50), stir-fried red basil pork ($8.20) and a Thai lemongrass drink ($2.90). No GST or service charge.
A revisit to Ah Loy Thai on a rainy day this week! π The cult budget Thai eatery on Tan Quee Lan Street near Bugis is loved for cheap, tasty Thai home cooking with no GST or service charge.
The eatery was full house, but the queue moved fast for a table of 2, we waited barely 5 minutes (bigger groups had a longer wait).

The menu and our orders:

Self service ordering:

The Thai lemongrass drink ($2.90), fragrant and lightly sweet, the refreshing herbal cooler thatβs perfect against spicy food:

One of my favourite dishes, the fried glass noodles ($8.90). Springy mung-bean glass noodles (tang hoon) stir-fried with egg and seasonings until they soak up all that savoury wok flavour, light yet moreish:

The clear tom yum seafood soup ($9.50). The clear (non-coconut) version of tom yum, sour and spicy with lemongrass, galangal, lime and chilli, loaded with seafood, a proper appetite-waking, sinus-clearing bowl:

The stir-fried red basil leaf with pork ($8.20). This is pad krapow, minced/sliced pork stir-fried hot with Thai holy basil, garlic and chilli, savoury and aromatic, best spooned over rice:

The overall spread:

Net price with no GST and service charge! ππΌ For this much food, the bill was a steal, which is exactly why the queues are a permanent fixture here.
