River South (Hoe Nam) Prawn Noodles!
Revisit to River South (Hoe Nam) Prawn Noodles at Tai Thong Crescent: small prawns and pork ribs with noodles or kway teow ($6 each). A long-standing prawn mee name.
Our revisit to River South (Hoe Nam) Prawn Noodles, around 9pm. ๐
River South (Hoe Nam) is a long-standing prawn noodle name at Tai Thong Crescent, the kind of old-school prawn mee (่พ้ข) institution that has been drawing crowds for decades. The eatery was almost full house with people queuing to order, the usual scene here.

The menu:

Prawn noodles (่พ้ข) is the Hokkien soup built on a broth simmered for hours from prawn heads and shells plus pork bones, the shells fried first to deepen the flavour, until the soup turns a deep, sweet, umami-rich brown.
Small prawns and pork ribs with noodles ($6), the classic combination, prawns and slow-cooked rib pieces in the rich stock:

Small prawns and pork ribs with kway teow ($6), the same toppings over flat rice noodles:

Honest verdict: the standard has dropped a slight bit compared to our last visit a few years ago, the broth not quite as deep as we remembered. But nonetheless, it still tastes not bad, and a slightly off day at an institution is still a decent prawn mee.

Overall: 4 / 5. ๐๐๐ผ Still a solid bowl of prawn mee, if not quite the peak we remembered. Would re-visit.
