Dark chocolate soft serve (buy 1 + 2nd 50% off: $13.50)!

Sunday morning dessert with BB — dark chocolate soft serve at $13.50 via the buy-one-get-the-2nd-at-50%-off promo. The specialty gelato shop with dark chocolate as the headline flavour.

We ordered (buy 1, get 2nd at 50% off):

The buy-one-get-2nd-half-off promo math: assuming standard price of $9 per cone, the regular pair would cost $18; the promo brings it down to $13.50, saving $4.50 or 25%. Reasonable promo discount.

The dark chocolate soft serve was the specialty headline. Different from the standard McDonald’s vanilla soft serve, the specialty gelato shop dark chocolate uses real cocoa or premium chocolate as the base ingredient, with the proper bittersweet profile and the slight chocolate-coating mouthfeel.

The dark chocolate flavour profile leans the bittersweet direction — high cocoa percentage (probably 70%+ from the proper formulation), with the slight bitter edge that balances the sweetness. Different from milk chocolate soft serve (which would be too sweet to taste as proper chocolate) or white chocolate (which lacks the cocoa depth).

The texture was the proper soft-serve consistency. Slightly denser than the standard chain soft serve, with the slow-melting profile that says higher dairy fat content. The colour was the proper dark mahogany-brown from the cocoa.

The cone was probably the proper waffle cone format — crispy, slightly buttery-sweet, holding the soft-serve in the proper cone-shape mound. Different from the budget sugar cone which lacks the proper waffle texture.

At $9 per single cone (regular price), this is upper-tier specialty gelato pricing. The Singapore artisan gelato spots run $5-10 per scoop or single cone depending on the spot and the location. The promo pricing of $6.75 per cone is fair value.

The buy-1-get-2nd-half-off promo format is the small marketing technique that drives the pair purchase. We probably wouldn’t have ordered two cones at full price each, but the promo brought us into the two-cone format.

Sunday morning dessert is the small weekend break. Different from the standard weekend brunch routine, the dessert-as-breakfast format is the occasional indulgence.

Overall: 4.5 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Solid dark chocolate soft serve via promo — would re-order.
