A casual sit-down dinner is exactly what a Saturday calls for, and this hit the spot. The Japanese curry rice was the comforting main: a ladle of rich, mildly sweet brown curry over rice, topped with three big craggy karaage (fried chicken) balls and a runny-yolked fried egg to break and mix through. Hearty and satisfying.
The stir-fried noodles were the lighter share plate, tossed with bean sprouts, prawns and vegetables in a savoury sauce, a nice contrast to the rich curry. And a cold Sapporo rounded it out, crisp and clean against all that comfort food.
Curry rice with crispy chicken, some noodles to share and a cold beer is a great, unfussy Saturday combination, and the 1-for-1 deal brought the bill down to a very reasonable $33.90 for two. Easy and satisfying.
