This was the slightly fancier end of the Burpple Beyond rotation, a proper sit-down restaurant lunch. The steak was the centrepiece, a good seared piece in a creamy peppercorn sauce with a generous pile of golden fries, hearty and satisfying.
The beef penne was the other main, ridged pasta in a savoury sauce with tender chunks of beef and a few herbs through it. A fresh salad scattered with walnuts kept things light and crunchy against the two rich plates, and two glasses of red wine made it feel like a proper occasion.
A steak, a pasta, a salad and wine is a lovely indulgent Sunday spread, and with the 1-for-1 bringing a $130-ish bill down to $69.33, it felt like a real treat rather than a splurge. Exactly the kind of slow, unhurried weekend meal we enjoy.
