A hearty Western lunch with BB, made good value by Burpple Beyond 1-for-1: fish and chips ($24+) and The Poet’s burger ($22+) for an effective $25.68. 😋
What we had:
- Fish and chips: a long beer-battered fillet over fries, with tartar sauce and a lemon wedge
- The Poet’s burger: a beef burger on a sesame bun, piled with crispy onion strings, with a side of fries
The fish and chips was the proper pub version. A big fillet in a light, crisp golden batter, shattering at the edges and steamy and flaky inside, sitting on a bed of fries with a pot of creamy, herby tartar sauce and a squeeze of lemon to cut the richness. Simple, generous and done well.
The Poet’s burger was the indulgent one. A juicy beef patty stacked with a tangle of crispy fried onion strings for crunch and sweetness, on a soft sesame bun, with more fries alongside. Messy in the best way, and properly satisfying.
At regular prices these two mains would run well over forty dollars, so getting both for $25.68 on the deal made it a relaxed, filling lunch without the splurge. The kind of casual Western meal that just hits the spot on a lazy day.
Overall: 4.6 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Crisp battered fish and a generous onion-topped burger, hearty and great value. Would re-do.
