酿豆腐 / Yong tau foo ($13)!
A generous yong tau foo for two: beancurd skin, tau pok and fishcake in a dark sweet sauce, with bowls of soup on the side. $13.
A hearty yong tau foo lunch to share with BB: 酿豆腐 (yong tau foo), $13. 😋
What we had:
- Two plates of yong tau foo in a dark sweet sauce: beancurd skin, tau pok, fishcake and greens, with a bowl of clear soup each
This was a generous, build-your-own spread done the dry way, the picked items served over a base with that signature glossy brown sweet sauce drizzled all over, and a little chilli on the side to stir in.
The pieces were the good stuff. Crispy beancurd skin (tau kee) that goes lovely and silky where the sauce soaks in, puffy tau pok that drinks up the gravy and bursts when you bite, and slices of springy fishcake. With the sauce coating everything and a dab of chilli for heat, it is moreish in that very Singaporean way.
The bowls of clear soup on the side are the perfect foil, light and savoury for sipping between the richer sauced bites. Yong tau foo is one of those meals you can tailor exactly to what you fancy, and a generous portion like this between two is very satisfying.
Comforting, customisable and full of flavour. At $13 for two, fair value for a proper sit-down version.
Overall: 4.6 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Silky beancurd skin and gravy-soaked tau pok in a sweet sauce, with soup to balance it. Would re-visit.
