French toast with scrambled egg & Coffee brew!
A cafe brunch: thick French toast topped with molten scrambled egg, paired with two cups of black brewed coffee.
A lazy Sunday brunch with BB: French toast topped with scrambled egg, and a brewed coffee each. ☕😋
What we had:
- Thick French toast crowned with soft, molten scrambled egg and a sprinkle of herbs
- Two cups of black brewed coffee
This was the savoury take on French toast, which I love. Instead of the usual maple syrup and berries, you get a thick slab of egg-soaked toast, pan-fried golden, then piled with creamy, just-set scrambled egg that spills over the edges. The toast underneath is soft and a little custardy from the egg soak, so the whole thing eats rich and comforting, somewhere between French toast and a fancy eggs-on-toast. A little crack of pepper and the herbs keep it from being one-note.
The coffee was served as a straight black brew rather than an espresso drink, clean and aromatic, no milk to get in the way. That was the right call: its slight bitterness cut neatly through the buttery, eggy richness of the toast, so each sip reset the palate for the next bite.
Simple, satisfying brunch fare, and a nice change from the sweet versions.
Overall: 4.6 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Buttery French toast under molten scrambled egg, balanced by a clean black brew. Would re-visit.
