The Grapefruit Boom was the fresh-fruit tea variant. Light tea base (green or jasmine) infused with fresh grapefruit juice and chunks of grapefruit flesh, with the proper sour-bitter-sweet flavour profile that defines grapefruit. Cold-pressed grapefruit provides the cleanest flavour; pre-bottled grapefruit juice loses the brightness.
The chunks of grapefruit floating in the cup are the giveaway of fresh-fruit versus syrup. Each sip pulls up the small bits of fruit pulp along with the tea liquid, providing the textural variety and the fresh-fruit aroma.
At $5.90 the Grapefruit Boom is premium fresh-fruit tea pricing. Standard fruit tea chains charge $4-5; the specialty chains with fresh fruit (no syrups, no concentrate) command the $5-7 range.
The Berry Bang Cheezo was the cheese-tea variant. The “cheezo” suffix on chain bubble tea menus refers to the cheese foam topping that’s been a trend since 2017-18. Cream cheese whipped with milk and a touch of salt into a foamy topping that gets piled on top of the cold tea base.
The drink format requires a specific sipping technique. No straw — you tilt the cup and drink directly from the rim, so the cheese foam reaches your lips at the same time as the tea below.
