Sunday tea break $23.30 — post-badminton cafe stop after 4 hours of court time. Recovery sweet break.

Sunday's tea break after 4 hours of badminton ($23.30)!

Sunday afternoon tea break with BB — $23.30 cafe spread after 4 hours of badminton. The post-exercise recovery sweet break.

We ordered (tea break):

Total: $23.30 for the spread.

The 4-hour badminton session is the proper Sunday morning routine. Court bookings at the sports centres, doubles or singles depending on who else is around, the long playing session that uses up the morning energy completely. Post-session shower and you’re properly hungry for both proper food and the small sweet break.

The post-badminton tea break is the variation on the post-exercise refuel. The standard refuel slot is the hawker centre nearby with a $4-5 plate. The tea break is the small dessert pickup at a cafe — sweet items rather than savoury, drinks rather than soup.

The $23.30 cafe tea break sits in the mid-tier cafe stop pricing. The sweet items were probably a cake slice or a pastry plate, designed to be substantial enough to satisfy but light enough that it doesn’t compete with the post-shower dinner.

Drinks were the standard cafe options. A specialty coffee for me, a tea for BB. Both in proper ceramic cups for the proper sit-down experience.

The post-exercise eating window is interesting. The body wants carbs-and-protein for the muscle recovery, plus salt for the electrolyte replacement. Sweet desserts aren’t the optimal recovery food, but the small dessert break paired with the proper meal later is the right rotation. The dessert tea break covers the immediate craving; the proper dinner covers the actual nutrition.

The cafe was probably a neighbourhood spot we’d been frequenting. After months of regular visits, we knew the menu and the baristas knew our orders. Sunday afternoon cafe stops feel different from weekday ones — slower, less rushed, more deliberate.

The 4-hour badminton + cafe tea break combination became one of the regular Sunday routines through 2019. The exercise gave the morning structure, the tea break gave the recovery a small social ritual.

Overall: 4.4 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Solid post-badminton tea break — keeping the routine.
