Social Place (Wisma Atria): they ran out of pigs, hence the mains ($41.31)!
Dinner at Social Place (Wisma Atria): they'd sold out of the pork dishes, so we pivoted to the scallion oil noodles, a cold chicken with spicy sauce, and braised soya chicken. $41.31.
Dinner with BB at Social Place, the modern Hong Kong-style Cantonese restaurant at Wisma Atria. They’d run out of the pork dishes, so we pivoted the mains. $41.31. 😋
What we ended up with:
- Scallion oil noodles: springy noodles tossed in a savoury, fragrant scallion oil and topped with a generous tangle of crispy fried spring onions.
- A cold chicken / silken tofu dish dressed in a spicy chilli-garlic sauce with cucumber.
- Braised soya chicken, glossy and tender in a dark master-stock braise.
Social Place is known for its creative, photogenic takes on Cantonese classics and dim sum, so even an off-the-cuff order (after the pork ran out) turned out lovely. The scallion oil noodles were the standout, deceptively simple but deeply savoury, the slick aromatic oil clinging to every strand and the crispy fried scallions adding a sweet, frizzled crunch on top. It’s the kind of dish that proves you don’t need much when the basics are done well.
The cold chicken with the spicy sauce was a refreshing, appetite-whetting counterpoint, the chilli-garlic dressing bright and punchy against the smooth, cool tofu and chicken. The braised soya chicken rounded things out with its comforting, savoury-sweet depth. A happy accident of a dinner, honestly.
Overall: 4.6 / 5. 😋👍🏼 The scallion oil noodles alone were worth it, and the pivot to chicken and tofu still made for a tasty Social Place dinner. Would re-visit (for the pork next time).
