A light, meat-free lunch to balance things out: vegetarian bee hoon for $3. ๐ฑ๐
What we had:
- Vegetarian bee hoon: fried rice vermicelli with braised mushroom, mock char siu, fried beancurd skin and cabbage
A simpler plate than some, and none the worse for it. The bee hoon was soft and lightly seasoned, the plain rice-vermicelli base that lets the toppings do the talking. Over it sat a modest, well-chosen handful: soft braised mushroom for that savoury depth, a few slices of red-edged mock char siu, crisp fried beancurd skin, and a scoop of soft cabbage.
It is the kind of unfussy vegetarian plate you find at the meatless stall, gentle on the stomach and easy to eat, with the mushrooms carrying enough savouriness that you do not miss the meat. A dab of the chilli on the side gives it a little lift.
At $3 it is honest, affordable eating, and a nice way to keep a meat-free day going without much effort. Light, comforting and just enough.
Overall: 4.4 / 5. ๐๐๐ผ A simple, comforting vegetarian bee hoon with savoury mushroom and mock char siu. Would re-order.
