Yuzu ramen dinner ($45.55)!
A Japanese ramen dinner: a bright yuzu shio ramen and a shoyu ramen, both with chashu and a jammy egg, plus a plate of gyoza. $45.55.
A Sunday ramen dinner with BB, ordering two different bowls and a plate of gyoza: $45.55 for the lot. ๐๐
What we had:
- Yuzu shio ramen: thin noodles in a clear, citrusy salt broth with chashu, a jammy egg, nori and greens
- Shoyu ramen: thin noodles in a darker soy broth with chashu, a jammy egg, nori and greens
- A plate of gyoza
Getting one of each meant two very different bowls to compare. The yuzu shio ramen was the one I came for, and it was lovely: a clean, clear salt broth brightened with yuzu, that fragrant Japanese citrus with its floral, tart, grapefruit-mandarin perfume. Instead of a heavy, rich tonkotsu it is light and aromatic, the citrus lifting everything, so it eats fresh rather than filling.
The shoyu ramen was the more classic, comforting bowl, a deeper soy-based broth, savoury and warming. Both came with tender slices of chashu, a jammy-yolked ajitama egg and a sheet of nori.
The gyoza on the side were the crispy bonus, pan-fried golden on the bottom and juicy inside, lovely dipped in the chilli-soy sauce. A bright, refreshing ramen and a rich one, plus dumplings, a really satisfying dinner.
Overall: 4.7 / 5. ๐๐๐ผ A bright, citrusy yuzu shio ramen and a comforting shoyu bowl, with crispy gyoza. Would re-visit.
