1st round of brunch ($7.38)!
Thursday phase-2 brunch — first round of double-brunch day, $7.38. Small light meal before the bigger second round.
Thursday morning brunch with BB — 1st round of brunch at $7.38. We had a double-brunch day planned (round two coming later in the morning) so this first round was the lighter starter.
We ordered:
- 1st round brunch set — $7.38
The “first round” framing is the kind of language we use when we know we’re going for two brunches in a row. The idea is to keep the first one small enough to leave room for a bigger second round, while still satisfying the morning hunger that hits around 9am.
This first round was a small set — a bento-style box with a single main, a small carb, a side of vegetables, and a drink. Standard breakfast-cafe formula in the lower-cost tier.
The main was a glazed protein piece (chicken or fish, can’t recall exactly), portion-controlled to about half what a standard lunch set would give you. Carb was a small portion of rice or toast. The side was a quick stir-fried vegetable.
Drink was a sealed cup of tea or coffee.
At $7.38 this is the lower-end breakfast set pricing — designed to be a “round one” rather than a full meal. Cafes during the post-circuit-breaker reopening were running these smaller sets to maintain delivery volume while keeping order-frequency up.
The whole point of a multi-round brunch day is the pacing. You start with a light first round to break the morning fast, take a small break (work, errands, walk), then go for the substantial second round when you’re actually properly hungry again. It’s the lockdown-era riff on the brunch-format flexibility — instead of one big mid-morning meal, you split it across the morning.
Round two was scheduled for two hours later.
Overall: 4.1 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Decent first round — pacing the morning.
