Friday's lunch!

Friday phase-2 home lunch — rice, eggs, vegetables. End-of-work-week home kitchen routine.

Friday's lunch!

Friday lunch at home with BB — closing out the work week with the standard home kitchen plate. Same components as every weekday lunch this month, executed the same way.

Today’s plate:

The Friday lunch is the end-of-week comfort meal. By Friday the cooking energy is starting to flag, but the kitchen routine has become automatic enough that we can still pull off the standard plate without trying. The weekend was an afternoon away.

Hot rice base was the standard fluffy jasmine.

Fried egg was the M-style sunny-side. Crispy white edges, runny golden yolk.

Stir-fried vegetables today were a mix of cabbage and carrot shreds with garlic and a splash of soy.

Pan-seared protein was a small portion of sausage rounds — sliced Bratwurst, hit in its rendered fat.

Chilli sauce on the side as always.

We sat at the kitchen counter, drank coffee from the V60, ate slow. The Friday energy was different from the Monday energy — looser, with the weekend in sight, less urgency in the work afternoon.

By August the home weekday lunch routine had become so automatic that it took zero cognitive effort. The plate assembled itself; the rhythm of the kitchen knew where the spatula went, where the rice cooker beeped from, where the chilli sauce bottle lived. Lockdown-era cooking turned into proper muscle memory.

Phase 2 reopening had restored the option of eating out for Friday lunch, but the home routine kept winning on the cost-time-comfort math. Some lockdown habits earn their permanence.

Overall: 4.2 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Reliable Friday home lunch — keeping the routine.
