Thursday's lunch!
Thursday August phase-2 home lunch — rice, eggs, vegetables. Weekday rotation continuing through mid-August.
Thursday lunch at home with BB — back to the weekday rotation after Tuesday’s anniversary dinner. The home kitchen routine had become so locked-in that the contrast with the celebratory dinner just made it feel more familiar.
Today’s plate:
- Hot rice base
- Fried egg (sunny-side)
- Stir-fried vegetables
- Pan-seared protein
- Chilli sauce on the side
The Thursday lunch is the steady late-week meal. By Thursday the work week’s momentum is built, the weekend is in sight, and the cooking energy is in autopilot mode — same components, same skillet, same 15-minute timeframe.
Hot rice base was the standard fluffy jasmine.
Fried egg was the M-style sunny-side. Crispy white edges, runny golden yolk centred on the plate.
Stir-fried vegetables today were cabbage shreds with carrot strips, smashed garlic and a splash of soy.
Pan-seared protein was a small portion of sausage rounds — sliced Bratwurst, hit in its rendered fat.
Chilli sauce on the side as always.
We sat at the kitchen counter, drank coffee from the V60, ate slow. The work-from-home Thursday lunch break had a different rhythm from the pre-pandemic office canteen — slower, less rushed, with proper sit-down eating rather than the quick canteen-and-back format.
The home weekday lunch had become the default. Tuesday’s $80+ anniversary dinner was the special occasion; Thursday’s $4 home lunch was the steady baseline. Both formats had earned their slot in our rotation.
Lockdown taught us when to splurge and when to keep it simple. The home Thursday lunch was firmly on the “keep it simple” side.
Overall: 4.2 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Reliable Thursday home lunch — keeping the routine.
