Monday morning lockdown breakfasts had a particular energy — the workday was about to begin but the commute was non-existent, which meant breakfast became a real meal rather than the grab-and-go default. Delivery breakfast turned the lockdown Monday into a small treat.
The breakfast set came as a multi-item bento: a hot rice or noodle base, a protein, and a few sides. Standard format for delivery breakfast in Singapore. Each component was sealed properly, so by the time the rider arrived nothing had bled into anything else.
The protein was a generous portion — usually a glazed chicken, fish or pork piece — properly cooked and tender, with sauce ladled over the top.
Rice base was hot and fluffy. Sides were a stir-fried vegetable plus a small pickled component.
At $10.40 this is fair lockdown delivery breakfast pricing. A bit more expensive than cooking at home but worth it for a Monday morning when the energy is conserved for the work week ahead.
The lockdown delivery game became one of the small skill-building exercises of the period. You learned which restaurants delivered well (food still hot, packaging intact), which times had the lowest delivery surge pricing, and which combos travelled best from kitchen to doorstep.
GrabFood on a lockdown Monday morning is the kind of small luxury that we wouldn’t have bothered with before circuit breaker. After three months of lockdown, it became normalised.
Overall: 4.2 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Solid Monday lockdown breakfast — would re-order.
