Happy mid week brunch!

Wednesday phase-2 mid-week brunch — home plate of rice, eggs, protein, vegetables. Working-from-home brunch routine continuing.

Happy mid week brunch!

Wednesday mid-week brunch with BB — phase 2 reopening was rolling through but the work-from-home schedule kept the kitchen as the breakfast venue. Mid-week brunch is the underrated weekday meal.

Today’s plate:

The mid-week brunch is the meal where you’ve gotten past the Monday-Tuesday energy and you’re cruising through Wednesday with the weekend still in sight. The cooking energy is in the comfortable zone — neither the Monday start-up effort nor the Friday end-of-week burnout.

Hot rice base was the standard fluffy jasmine. The forever foundation.

Fried egg was the M-style sunny-side. Crispy white edges, runny golden yolk centred on the plate. The egg’s done in a small skillet on medium-low heat, taken off the moment the white sets so the yolk stays glossy.

Stir-fried vegetables today were a quick mix of cabbage shreds and carrot strips with smashed garlic and a splash of soy. Tender-crisp, lightly seasoned. The colour break against the beige rice and egg.

Protein was pan-seared sausage rounds today — sliced from a Bratwurst-style link, hit the pan in their own rendered fat, browned both sides. Crispy casing, juicy inside.

Chilli sauce on the side as always.

We sat at the kitchen table, ate slow, drank coffee from the V60 dripper, and talked about whatever didn’t involve the work afternoon.

Phase 2 was opening up options for eating out again, but the home brunch had locked itself in as the weekday default. We weren’t in a hurry to change the routine.

Overall: 4.3 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Reliable mid-week brunch — keeping the routine.
