- Italian gelato (multi-scoop) — $8 via Chope deal
Chope is the restaurant booking platform that’s been running deals alongside its main booking business. The Chope deals work similarly to Burpple Beyond — pay a smaller fee upfront for a voucher, redeem at the participating spot for a discounted meal or treat.
The Italian gelato at this spot was the proper gelato — denser than American ice cream, slower-melting, made with real ingredient sourcing. Multi-scoop orders give you the chance to try multiple flavours at the discounted price.
The flavour selection at a proper Italian gelato spot is the substantial part. Typically you have 12-18 flavours rotating across categories: chocolate-leaning (dark chocolate, milk chocolate, Nutella variations), nut-leaning (Piemonte hazelnut, Sicilian pistachio, almond), fruit-leaning (lemon sorbet, strawberry, peach), and seasonal specials (chestnut in autumn, pumpkin, cranberry).
We picked our standard pairing — likely a Piemonte hazelnut or Sicilian pistachio (the premium nut scoop) plus a fruit sorbet or chocolate scoop as the counterpoint. The nut-and-fruit or nut-and-chocolate combination has been our default through the year.
Texture was the proper Italian gelato consistency — dense, slow-melting, with the creamy mouthfeel that lower air content during the churn delivers. Each scoop held its shape on the cone for the first few minutes of eating before the melt set in.
At $8 via Chope this is roughly $4 per scoop for premium Italian gelato. Full price each scoop runs $6-7, so the deal saves about $4-6.
The subscription discount stacks (Burpple Beyond, Chope, Citibank cards, etc.) had become a regular part of our dining behaviour through the year. By November we’d internalised which deals worked at which spots and we’d built habits around them.
Phase 2 had restored access to the full restaurant ecosystem, and the deals made the premium tier more accessible than full price would.
Overall: 4.5 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Excellent Italian gelato via Chope — would chase the deal again.
