Saturday's brunch!
Saturday December phase-2 home brunch — rice, eggs, vegetables. Year-end weekend kitchen routine.
Saturday brunch at home with BB — mid-December weekend home kitchen routine. Year-end approaching, the steady weekend brunch still anchored.
Today’s plate:
- Hot rice base
- Fried egg (sunny-side)
- Stir-fried vegetables
- Pan-seared protein
- Chilli sauce on the side
The December Saturday brunch had the same shape as every other Saturday brunch this year.
Hot rice base was the standard fluffy jasmine.
Fried egg was the M-style sunny-side. Crispy white edges, runny golden yolk.
Stir-fried vegetables today were cabbage shreds with carrot strips, smashed garlic and a splash of soy.
Pan-seared protein was a small portion of sausage rounds.
Chilli sauce on the side as always.
We sat at the kitchen table, drank coffee from the V60, ate slow. December weather was the cooler end of the year, which meant the kitchen got a touch warmer during cooking.
The home weekend brunch had been the steady anchor of 2020. Through circuit breaker, through phase 2 reopening, through the small return of dining-out, the weekend home brunch had stayed the constant. Two weeks until 2021.
Some lockdown habits earn their permanence post-reopening. The home weekend brunch sits firmly at the top of that list.
Phase 2 had restored the cafe brunch ecosystem, and we’d cycled through several cafes over the year. The home brunch had quietly out-competed all of them on the comfort, cost, and zero-queue math.
Overall: 4.3 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Reliable Saturday brunch — keeping the routine.
