Sunday's brunch!

Sunday September phase-2 home brunch — rice, eggs, vegetables, protein. Quiet weekend kitchen routine continuing into autumn.

Sunday's brunch!

Sunday brunch at home with BB — first Sunday of September, phase 2 rolling for months, the home weekend brunch routine had become genuinely automatic.

Today’s plate:

The September Sunday brunch had the same shape as the August ones, the July ones, the June ones. By the third quarter of the year the routine ran on autopilot — we didn’t have to think about what to make on a weekend morning because the plate had earned its slot.

Hot rice base was the standard fluffy jasmine.

Fried egg was the M-style sunny-side. Crispy white edges, runny golden yolk centred on the plate. The yolk-break-over-rice ritual.

Stir-fried vegetables today were cabbage shreds with carrot strips, smashed garlic and a splash of soy.

Pan-seared protein was a small portion of pan-fried sausage rounds — sliced Bratwurst, hit in its rendered fat.

Chilli sauce on the side as always.

We sat at the kitchen table, drank coffee from the V60 dripper, and ate slow. The September weather was starting to ease into the cooler end of the year, which meant the kitchen got a touch warmer than the apartment ambient during cooking. The contrast felt seasonal.

The home Sunday brunch had become one of the small steady anchors of 2020. Pre-pandemic this slot was a queue-and-wait affair at cafes; lockdown and phase 2 had given us back the home kitchen as the more enjoyable weekend brunch venue.

Lockdown habits worth keeping. Home Sunday brunch sits firmly on the keeper list.

Overall: 4.3 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Reliable Sunday brunch — keeping the routine.
