Supper after Thursday's badminton!

Friday late-night supper — hawker stop after Thursday badminton session. Post-game refuel at the late-evening hawker centre.

Supper after Thursday's badminton!

Friday early-morning throwback to supper after Thursday badminton — late-night hawker stop after the evening’s badminton session.

We ordered (supper):

The Thursday evening badminton + supper combination became one of the regular routines through November. Phase 2 had reopened the badminton courts to evening operations, and the post-game late-night supper at the hawker centre near the courts became the small post-exercise ritual.

The post-badminton late-night hunger is its own particular eating moment. You’ve burned through your dinner from a few hours earlier, you’ve sweated through an hour of court time, and you’re heading home around 10-11pm. The hawker centre stalls that stay open late (most close by 9-10pm but the supper-tier stalls run later) become the refuel option.

The plate could’ve been any of the late-night hawker classics — fried hokkien mee, oyster omelette, bak chor mee, or one of the noodle soup stalls that run into the late evening. At the late hour the choice is narrower than during the day, but the quality at the open stalls is usually still solid because they’ve been operating since lunch with their wok in steady use.

Late-night hawker supper has a different energy from the daytime equivalent. Quieter, less rushed, more uncle-and-auntie regulars who’ve been doing the same late-night hawker stop for decades. The atmosphere is the part you don’t get from delivery or sit-down restaurants — the open-air, casual, late-night Singapore food culture that’s been steady for generations.

The pattern of evening badminton + late-night hawker supper was one of the small lockdown-era developments. Pre-pandemic the evening exercise venue was the gym, and the post-gym refuel was usually a quick takeaway home; phase 2 brought back the badminton court, which then unlocked the post-game hawker supper that the gym routine never had.

Phase 2 had restored the sports + supper combination, and we’d built it into the regular Thursday evening pattern.

Overall: 4.4 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Solid post-badminton late-night supper — keeping the routine.
