Thursday's lunch!
Thursday phase-2 home lunch — rice, eggs, vegetables, protein. Standard weekday rotation continuing through August.
Thursday lunch at home with BB — the weekday rotation continues. After Wednesday’s mid-morning brunch and afternoon tea-time, Thursday returned to the simple home kitchen plate.
Today’s plate:
- Hot rice base
- Fried egg (sunny-side)
- Stir-fried vegetables
- Pan-seared protein
- Chilli sauce on the side
The Thursday lunch is the steady mid-to-late week meal. By Thursday the work week has built its momentum and the weekend is in sight. The cooking energy is in autopilot mode — same components, same skillet, same 15-minute timeframe.
Hot rice base was the standard fluffy jasmine.
Fried egg was the M-style sunny-side. Crispy white edges, runny golden yolk.
Stir-fried vegetables today were cabbage shreds with carrot strips, smashed garlic and a splash of soy.
Pan-seared protein was a small portion of sausage rounds — sliced Bratwurst, hit in its rendered fat.
Chilli sauce on the side as always.
We sat at the kitchen counter, drank coffee from the V60, ate slow. The work-from-home Thursday lunch had a different rhythm from the pre-pandemic office canteen — slower, less rushed, with proper sit-down eating.
The home weekday lunch had become genuinely the default option, even with phase 2 reopening. The cost math, the time math, the comfort math — all of them favoured home cooking. The occasional restaurant or cafe break is the variety; the home plate is the foundation.
Lockdown habits worth keeping post-reopening. This routine sits firmly on the keeper list.
Overall: 4.2 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Reliable Thursday home lunch — keeping the routine.
