A casual conveyor-belt sushi lunch at Sushiro, plates of nigiri pulled off the belt plus a warm bowl of udon. πŸ£πŸ˜‹

What we had:

Sushiro is Japan’s largest kaiten (conveyor-belt) sushi chain and has grown to well over a dozen outlets here. You order off a touch panel, plates come gliding over on the two-tier belt, and you stack up the empties as you go. It is a fun, low-pressure way to eat, especially when you just want a few favourites rather than a full set.

The salmon nigiri was the must-order, two fat slices of fresh salmon draped over neat fingers of rice. The fish was clean and buttery, the cut thick enough to drape over the sides, and a small dab of soy was all it needed.

The udon was the comforting other half: thick, slippery wheat noodles in a light brown dashi broth, finished with crunchy tempura bits (tenkasu), sesame, spring onion and a slice of fishcake. The crispy bits soak up the broth and add little pops of texture, and the bowl is the warm, slurpable contrast to the cold sushi.

It is not high-end omakase, but for fresh, affordable plates eaten at your own pace, Sushiro hits the spot. Easy, fun and consistent.

Overall: 4.0 / 5. πŸ˜‹πŸ‘πŸΌ Fresh buttery salmon nigiri and a comforting bowl of udon, good fun off the belt. Would re-visit.
