Chicken cutlet noodles ($5.50)!
Chinatown hawker — chicken cutlet noodles with fried beancurd skin, runny egg, mee pok, chilli paste. $5.50.
Lunch — chicken cutlet noodles at Chinatown hawker for $5.50. 😋
What was on the plate ($5.50):
- Mee pok flat noodles dressed dark.
- Sliced fried chicken cutlet piled in centre.
- Soft-poached egg (yolk visible).
- Large fried beancurd skin square (foo chuk) on top.
- Chilli paste dollop.
Variant of bak chor mee — same dry mee pok base + chilli paste + foo chuk + egg, but with sliced fried chicken cutlet as the protein swap instead of minced pork. Western-leaning protein on Chinese noodle base.
$5.50 = standard hawker pricing.
Overall: 4.1 / 5. Chicken cutlet was crispy, foo chuk added crunch, runny egg enriched the noodles, chilli paste did the kick. Hawker mash-up win. 😋👍🏼
