Bangkok lunch — Crispy roast pork, Shrimp omelette, Salmon, Tom yum!

Bangkok local Thai restaurant lunch sharing — crispy roast pork, shrimp omelette, salmon, tom yum. The four-dish family-style spread that defines Thai eating.

Bangkok lunch — Crispy roast pork, Shrimp omelette, Salmon, Tom yum!

Bangkok holiday day three lunch — pulled into a local Thai restaurant for the family-style sharing spread. The right way to eat Thai food: four dishes, rice in the middle, everyone reaches across.

We ordered:

Plus jasmine rice for the table.

Moo krob was the obvious win — slabs of pork belly with audibly crunchy crackling on top, juicy fatty layer underneath, wok-fried in a sweet-soy glaze with garlic and chilli. The kind of dish where you grab a piece, dunk in the gravy, and put it directly on rice.

Shrimp omelette is the most underrated Thai dish — eggs fluffed up and fried in a deep wok of hot oil until the edges go crisp and the centre stays soft, with whole prawns nestled in. Comes served on a mound that looks like a golden cloud. Top with a squeeze of lime and a dash of fish sauce.

Salmon was the holiday upgrade — sliced thick, stir-fried with Thai basil and chilli, finished with a touch of fish sauce. Holiday spend at a local price.

Tom yum goong is the obvious classic — the sour-spicy-aromatic broth with lemongrass, lime leaf, galangal, chilli oil, and big prawns. Hits all the lobes of the tongue at once.

Bangkok holiday eating is meant to be done this way — family-style, four dishes for sharing, rice always in the middle.

Overall: 4.1 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Solid Bangkok lunch spread — would absolutely repeat.
