GrabFood — 1 piece spicy chicken, fries & drink ($5)!
Circuit breaker GrabFood — 1 piece spicy fried chicken with fries and a drink for $5 delivered. The fast-food chain promo lockdown saviour.
Thursday circuit-breaker lunch — pulled the GrabFood app for a fast-food spicy chicken combo at promo pricing. One piece spicy chicken + fries + drink for $5 delivered. The kind of math that makes you wonder how the chain isn’t bleeding money on delivery fees.
We ordered:
- 1 piece spicy fried chicken
- Regular fries
- Soft drink
Total: $5 (combo promo via GrabFood).
The spicy chicken was the standard fast-food fried chicken — a chicken thigh (we ordered thigh by default, white meat is for special occasions only) in a red-tinted hot-and-spicy batter. Crispy crust with that distinctive paprika-cayenne kick, juicy thigh meat inside, properly fried not soggy from delivery.
Texture was the test for any delivery fried chicken: would the crust survive the 20-minute trip from the outlet to our place. This one did, mostly. The bottom side had gone slightly damp from sitting against the box, but the top still had its crunch.
Fries were the regular salted variety, full portion, transported in a small cardboard sleeve. They cool fast in delivery, so we ate them first while still warm. Soft drink was sealed in a cup with a lid and a straw — Coke, ice-light because GrabFood couriers can’t carry full-ice cups upright reliably.
$5 for a delivered fried-chicken meal during lockdown was the kind of pricing that made GrabFood promos addictive. Full-price would’ve been closer to $10-12.
Overall: 4 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Solid lockdown fast-food lunch — re-orderable any week.
