Simple brunch!
Circuit breaker Saturday home brunch — eggs, toast, fruit, coffee. The understated lockdown brunch that's stopped trying to impress anyone.
Saturday circuit-breaker brunch at home with BB. After three weeks of lockdown the home brunch routine has settled into something simpler — no elaborate plating, no full-cafe-replica spreads. Just a few things done well.
We made:
- Eggs (soft scrambled)
- Toast (sourdough, lightly buttered)
- Sliced fruit (banana + strawberry)
- Filter coffee
Soft scrambled eggs are the perpetual showstopper of any home brunch — low heat, plenty of butter, stirred constantly with a silicone spatula until just barely set, taken off heat early so the residual carryover cooks them the rest of the way. The result is the custardy, just-runny texture that makes cafe scrambled eggs feel under-attended by comparison.
Toast was sourdough from the bakery up the road, sliced thick, lightly buttered. We’ve stopped going for the elaborate avocado-tomato-everything stack. Just bread and butter is enough.
Fruit on the side — banana slices and strawberries — for fresh acidity and a colour break against the beige eggs-and-toast palette. Brunch needs some non-cooked elements to feel balanced.
Filter coffee from the V60 dripper, freshly ground beans, brewed slow. We dial in the same recipe every weekend now — the consistency is half the comfort.
This is what circuit-breaker brunches turned into: nothing fancy, nothing photo-bait, just food that makes the morning feel calm before whatever the rest of the day brings. We sit in the kitchen, drink coffee, talk.
Overall: 4.2 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Quiet home brunch — keeping this exact routine.
