Green tea latte ($7) & Flat white ($6)!

Cafe Saturday — green tea matcha latte $7 + flat white $6. The classic mismatched-couple coffee order — matcha for BB, espresso for me.

Green tea latte ($7) & Flat white ($6)!

Saturday afternoon post-lunch coffee stop with BB at a neighbourhood cafe. The classic split — green tea matcha latte for BB, flat white for me. Each of us is brand-loyal to our default cafe order.

We ordered:

The matcha latte was the proper ceremonial-grade-leaning version — bright spring-green colour from real ground matcha rather than the dusty olive-green you get from cheaper culinary grade. Whisked into the milk so it suspended properly without clumping. Slight grassy bitterness coming through the steamed milk and a faint sweetness underneath (we ask for half-sweetness).

The latte art was a tulip on top, drawn in lighter milk over the deeper matcha base — a small touch that signals a barista who cares about more than just the bean.

Flat white was the textbook Australian-style pour. Double ristretto shot in a 6oz cup, microfoam silky enough to draw on without going dry, less milk than a latte but more than a cortado. The result is a more coffee-forward drink with the milk doing structural rather than masking work.

This cafe’s beans leaned the chocolate-and-nut side — well-suited to a flat white because there’s no fruit-acid sharpness to clash with the milk. Clean shot pull, no bitterness at the end.

$13 for two coffees in Singapore is fair third-wave pricing.

The cafe was the usual Saturday scene — a comfortable din of conversation, scattered laptop users, friends meeting up.

Overall: 4.3 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Reliable cafe stop — would always come back.
