Hot desserts on a rainy afternoon — Yat Ka Yan (一家人)!
Walnut & black sesame paste and barley beancurd skin from Yat Ka Yan at Fortune Centre — exactly what a wet Sunday afternoon called for. $7 for both.
After that bowl of mala, the rain didn’t let up — so we wandered over to Yat Ka Yan (一家人) at Fortune Centre on Middle Road for some old-school hot desserts. 😋
Ordered two to share:
- Walnut & black sesame paste (核桃芝麻) — $4. Two pastes swirled into one bowl — the walnut nutty and rich, the black sesame deep and toasty. Plated with such a pretty calligraphic swirl on top.
- Barley beancurd skin (白果薏米) — $3. Smooth, sweet ginkgo-and-barley soup topped with sheets of fresh beancurd skin (tau wat). So comforting.
Sum total: $7 for both. Can’t believe it’s still this price in 2021.
Overall: 4.4 / 5. The kind of place that just hits different on a rainy day. Will definitely be back when the weather turns again. 😍👍🏼
