Saturday dinner at a Japanese izakaya with BB ($99.46)!
Izakaya dinner date — ikura tamagoyaki, takoyaki, bacon-wrapped yakitori skewers, Suntory Premium Malt's beer. $99.46 total.
Saturday date-night with BB at a Japanese izakaya — went big with skewers + sides + draft beer. $99.46 total. 😋
What was on the table:
- Tamagoyaki with ikura — folded Japanese omelette topped with bright orange salmon roe, served with grated daikon and chopped scallions on the side. Sweet-savoury egg + briny pop of ikura = perfect starter.
- Takoyaki — golden fried octopus balls dressed with mayo drizzles, pickled red ginger strands and bonito flakes (with a soya sauce squeeze bottle on top).
- Bacon-wrapped enoki skewers — rolled into spiral wheels, lightly charred edges.
- A platter of yakitori skewers — bacon-wrapped quail eggs, bacon-wrapped mentaiko mochi, bacon-wrapped asparagus, chicken thigh, pork belly. The bacon-wrap technique adds fat + smokiness to every bite.
- A second platter of more skewers — fatty pork belly, beef, bacon-wrapped scallion, sausage. Each one charred just enough.
- A tall mug of Suntory The Premium Malt’s in pink-rose tint (signature seasonal sakura-style craft beer).
Skewer dinners are the best date-night format — small portions, lots of variety, keeps conversation going. Bacon-wrapped everything is dangerous in the best way.
Total: $99.46 for the meal + drinks.
Overall: 4.3 / 5. Variety was the strength — every plate had a different flavour and technique. Bacon-wrapped enoki and the ikura tamagoyaki were the standouts. Pricey but worth it for a proper Saturday night. 😍👍🏼
