Dry laksa takeaway ($29)!
Premium dry-style laksa delivery — two banana-leaf-lined boxes loaded with prawns, fishcake, fried tau pok, hard-boiled egg and chopped laksa leaves. $29.
Tried a premium dry laksa delivery with BB — pricey at $29 but the presentation alone made me curious. The dry version of laksa swaps the coconut broth for a thicker rempah-coat on the noodles. 😋
What was in the boxes ($29 for two portions):
- Two takeaway boxes lined with banana leaves — that immediately raised the visual stakes.
- A bed of thin bee hoon coated in a concentrated dry laksa rempah — same flavour profile as the soup version (lemak, chilli, spice) but without the broth pool.
- A generous spread of whole prawns (heads off, peeled) scattered through each box.
- Slices of pan-fried golden fishcake lined up across the box, taking up almost a third of the space.
- Pieces of fried tau pok absorbing the rempah.
- Half a hard-boiled egg sliced into rounds in the centre.
- A generous dusting of chopped laksa leaves (daun kesum) on top for the signature aroma.
The lack of broth makes the chilli + rempah hit more intense — every strand of bee hoon was coated rather than swimming. Different experience from the usual bowl, more “fried-noodle” in feel.
Total: $29 for two boxes. Pricier than a hawker laksa ($4-5 a bowl) by far.
Overall: 4.3 / 5. Innovative dry presentation, generous prawns and fishcake, banana leaf packaging was a nice touch. Pricing felt steep for what is essentially a hawker dish reimagined, but the quality of ingredients carried it. Once-in-a-while order, not a regular. 😍👍🏼
