Yang zhou fried rice at a hawker stall ($5)!
Modern hawker yang zhou fried rice — wok-fried rice with crab stick, shrimp, scrambled egg, scallions and a creamy onsen egg on top. $5.
Office lunch — yang zhou fried rice (扬州炒饭) with the modern onsen-egg upgrade. $5. 😋
What was in the stone bowl ($5):
- A base of wok-fried rice — fluffy, slightly oily, with bits of scrambled egg distributed throughout.
- Topped with classic yang zhou ingredients: diced crab stick (red and white cubes), bits of dried shrimp, chopped scallions.
- A soft poached onsen egg sitting right in the middle — runny yolk just about to break.
- A dusting of dried parsley for the green pop.
Cracked the yolk into the rice — instant silky glaze. Yang zhou fried rice + onsen egg twist = comfort meets modern.
Total: $5. Hawker pricing for a generous bowl with onsen egg upgrade.
Overall: 4.4 / 5. Rice had proper wok hei, onsen egg was the right runny level, ingredients were properly distributed. Reliable yang zhou done with the modern bowl-style twist. 😍👍🏼
