Sotong balls + ee mian soup ($8)!
Chinatown hawker — fried ee mian noodles in clear broth loaded with sotong balls, pork meatballs, sliced fishcake, bok choy. $8.
Lunch — sotong ball + ee mian soup at $8, Chinatown. Loaded fishball bowl. 😋
What was in the bowl ($8):
- Ee mian (deep-fried yellow noodles) in clear pork-anchovy broth.
- Multiple sotong (cuttlefish) balls — bouncy pale ones.
- Pork meatballs — smaller darker ones.
- Sliced fishcake strips.
- Bok choy + chopped scallions.
Same Chinatown hawker chain as the earlier kway teow version — same fishball loadout, different noodle base. Ee mian’s deep-fried texture soaks the broth differently than kway teow.
Overall: 4.4 / 5. Sotong balls had proper bounce, ee mian held the soup well, multiple proteins varied texture. Reliable hawker fishball bowl. 😋👍🏼
